In English, we say:
"I can't stop thinking about you."
But where I'm from, it sounds more like this:
Look, I know we just met.
And I know I'm supposed to play it cool, supposed to wait a little longer before I start saying reckless things, but sleep and I got into an argument last night because every time I closed my eyes, you showed up.
And now it's bothering me that I don't know your middle name.
I don't know how you take your coffee, if you're the extra-sugar type, or the kind that drinks it black like you've survived things nobody talks about.
I don't know what song you play when the world gets too loud.
I don't know what your room looks like at 2 a.m.or how your hair falls when nobody's around to impress.
And somehow, that's become the most important mystery in my life.
I know we just met.
I know.
But this morning I couldn't focus on a damn thing
because I caught myself wondering
what dreams you keep locked in the back of your mind, the ones you laugh off when people ask, but secretly pray for when nobody's listening.
I want to know what makes you laugh so hard you can't breathe.
What makes you cry.
What makes you laugh while you're crying.
What broke your heart.
What stitched it back together.
If I brought you flowers, would you want red? Blue?
Or would you tell me flowers die too fast and you'd rather have a good conversation?
See, that's the problem.
I know we just met,but somehow your voice moved into my head
and forgot to pay rent.
Now it's on repeat.
Every word.
Every laugh.
Every pause.
And I'll probably never tell you any of this.
I'll probably smile, act normal, pretend I've got more self-control than I do.
But the truth?
The truth is that somewhere between hello and goodbye, something shifted.
And now everything that matters to you matters to me.
Your favorite song. Your bad days.Your victories.Your scars.Your stories.
All of it.
I know we just met.
But somehow, the world got a little bigger when you walked into it
and a little harder to ignore.
