A Love That Remains
I’m not trying to be your first love.
Everybody wants the beginning
the late-night calls,
the butterflies,
the version of you
that hasn’t been hurt yet.
I want what comes after.
After life gets loud. After the honeymoon fades
and love stops looking like poetry
and starts looking like work.
Anybody can love your light.
I want your shadows too
the silence,
the scars,
the nights when you don’t feel
like yourself.
I don’t want to be
another spark in your story
bright for a moment,
then gone.
I want to be the love
that doesn’t run,
doesn’t fold,
doesn’t disappear.
Not a temporary high.
Something solid.
Something safe.
Something that feels
like finally coming home.
